This guide will get you started within 10 minutes so you can easily complete your first coin purchase.

Note! This tutorial is specifically designed to help you with your first purchases at BTC Direct by creating a free software wallet. Software wallets are a popular choice for storing cryptocurrency due to their ease of use, speed, and level of security they offer.

Step 1: Download the Wallet Software (desktop) or install the app (mobile)

In this guide, we choose the Exodus Wallet. Exodus is a well-known software wallet that supports a wide range of cryptocurrencies.

1. Visit the official website: Go to Exodus.io
2. Download the correct version: Download the app directly to your mobile or click the download button for your operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, or Android).
3. Install the wallet: Open the app on your mobile or open the downloaded file on your desktop and follow the installation instructions. The installation process is quick and easy, and Exodus automatically creates a new wallet!

Step 2: Receive and Send Cryptocurrency

1. To receive coins:
   • Click on "receive."
   • Select the desired coin.
   • Click on the coin address to copy it and paste the address into the order form of BTC Direct.
      
2. To send coins (later):
   • Click on "send."
   • Enter the recipient's address.
   • Enter the amount you want to send.
   • Check the details and confirm the transaction. Exodus makes sending cryptocurrency quick and easy.

Step 3: Make a Backup!

To ensure you can still access your coins if you lose access to the wallet, we always recommend making a backup. This backup consists of a 12-word recovery phrase.

Your backup using the MOBILE app:

• Click on the logo at the bottom right of the app.
• Choose Security.
• Choose Backup.
• Write down the 12 words and store them in a safe place. Note! Keep the recovery phrase offline in a secure location. Entering these 12 words on another mobile device will give immediate access to all coins in this wallet.
   

Your backup using the Exodus DESKTOP app:

• Click on the settings logo at the top right of the app.
• Choose Backup.
• Set a unique password. Save this password in a password manager or keep it safe offline.
• Write down the 12 words and store them in a safe place. Note! Keep the recovery phrase offline in a secure location. Entering these 12 words on another desktop or in a mobile wallet will give immediate access to all coins in this wallet.

Some Additional Security Tips!

Store your recovery phrase offline: Do not store your recovery phrase on your computer or online. Your recovery phrase provides access to all your coins. Handy if you lose access! So don’t leave these 12 words lying around and don’t store them digitally.
