What is Render?
Render is a decentralized network that enables GPU computing (especially for 3D rendering and related workloads like AI generative tasks) by matching idle graphics processing units (GPUs) with creators in need of high-performance rendering. Its mission is to make high-end 3D rendering more affordable, scalable, and accessible.

How does Render work?
The network connects creators (3D artists, VFX studios, architects, NFT makers) who want to submit a render job with node operators who provide GPU capacity. Creators pay with the RENDER token for compute power; node operators are rewarded in RENDER. The idea is that many GPUs sit idle and can be monetized instead of requiring expensive own hardware or centralized cloud render-farms. Technically: Scenes are broken into tasks, encrypted and distributed across node machines, then results are aggregated and delivered.
The token
- Abbreviation: RENDER
- Category: Utility / network token within a decentralized GPU-rendering ecosystem
- Blockchain: Initially issued as ERC-20 (ticker RNDR) on Ethereum, later migrated to a high-throughput Layer-1 (Solana) as a SPL token.
- Protocol: Features include job and node allocation, reputation systems for creators and node operators, encryption/hashing for security, and governance through the Render Network Proposals (RNP) process.
- Year of launch: Token launched in 2017; public network launch in 2020.
The technology behind Render
Render networks integrates GPU rendering engines (OctaneRender, Redshift, Blender Cycles) together with AI-image generation tools. Scenes are packaged using ORBX file format (container capturing assets + scene-graph) to allow distributed rendering. This enables parallel execution across many nodes, monetization of idle GPU hardware, and scalability compared with traditional centralized solutions. In addition, the network introduced a Burn and Mint Equilibrium (BME) model to manage token emissions and price stability.
The Render ecosystem
The ecosystem comprises:
- Creators (3D/visual content makers)
- Node operators (GPU providers)
- Infrastructure (job dispatching, encryption, escrow, rewards)
- Governance via the Render Network Foundation (non-profit) overseeing protocol development, community grants, etc. The RENDER token acts as the transactional medium: creators pay in it, operators earn it, and the network incentivizes participation.
Who is the founder of Render?
The originator is Jules Urbach, CEO of OTOY Inc., a company known for OctaneRender. He founded the project and oversaw its early development. In 2023, stewardship transitioned to the Render Network Foundation.
