As we have informed you over the past few months, the BTC Direct Custody trading platform has been permanently discontinued as of December 14, 2022.

The main reason for this decision is the confusion that exists about the differences between our two different trading platforms. On one hand we have our classic trading platform, where you manage your crypto independently through your own wallet. And on the other hand the Custody platform, where we manage your coins and you trade in crypto from your portfolio. You have used this last platform in the past year and and as of December 14th it is no longer possible to trade crypto.

What happens with the platform?

As of December 14, 2022 the BTC Direct Custody trading platform will be discontinued. The platform will be closed for crypto trading and it will no longer be possible to buy, sell or deposit crypto. However, you can still log in to view your data and download your annual report.

Do I have any crypto assets left on the platform?

If you still have (crypto) balances on the platform on December 14 of 2022, they will be automatically sold by BTC Direct on this date at the then current price values. The euro amount will be placed in your vault. As soon as the transaction is completed by us, you will receive an email with a confirmation and information about the amount of your euro credit.

Then you have until December 21 of 2022 to log in, link your bank account and verify your identity, after which you can withdraw your euro credits yourself. After that we will automatically transfer your funds back to the bank account you used for your last successful trade. Have you not verified your account? Then we cannot refund your funds to you.

What should I do if I still have euro balances in my safe?

Do you still have euro credits on the platform? Log in to the platform - this is still possible to view your data. Go to the 'portfolio' tab to withdraw your credits.

Are your euro balances still on the platform on December 21, 2022? Then we will automatically transfer them back to you to the bank account you used for your last successful trade, as long as you have verified your details.

Please note that you need a linked IBAN bank account to have your euro balances refunded. Do you only have a credit card number and/or Bancontact linked? Then we cannot refund your funds. Read below how to still link your bank account.

How do I link my bank account?

To link your account, follow the next steps: 

  1. Log in and go to the 'portfolio' tab.
  2. Click on the blue 'deposit' button. 
  3. Choose iDeal or a SEPA bank transfer. Transfer 1 euro so we can link your bank account to you.
  4. Follow the payment instructions.
  5. Your bank account is now linked.

How do I verify my account?

To verify your account, follow the next steps:

  1. Log in to the platform and click on your profile at the top right.
  2. Go to 'settings'.
  3. Click on 'Upgrade my account' in the orange bar.
  4. Follow the instructions to confirm your identity.
  5. Your identity is now confirmed!

What happens after December 21?

If there are still euro balances in your vault after December 21, we will transfer them back to you, provided you have linked your bank account. We will then transfer the full amount to the bank account which you made your last successful trade with.
