What is Sei?
Sei is a high-performance layer-1 blockchain, built with the Cosmos SDK and optimized for digital asset trading—especially decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and high-frequency applications. The network aims for low-latency finality (“sub-second finality”), high throughput, and maintains decentralization and security.

How does Sei work?
Sei uses the Twin-Turbo Consensus mechanism, a combination of intelligent block propagation and optimistic block processing. This delivers very fast finality (around 400 ms) and major scalability through parallel execution.
With the Sei Giga architecture, this is pushed further: a next-gen multi-proposer EVM layer enabling up to 200,000 transactions per second (TPS) and 5 gigagas per second, with sub-400 ms finality.

Abbreviation: Sei
Category: Utility / Governance / Staking
Blockchain: Sei Network (Layer 1, Cosmos SDK / soon EVM-only)
Protocol: Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) with Twin-Turbo Consensus
Year of launch: 2023
The technology behind Sei
Sei is built with the Cosmos SDK, using Tendermint Core for BFT consensus and interoperability via IBC. The architecture includes a built-in order-matching engine, parallelization, a high-performance database (SeiDB), and support for EVM smart contracts (cosmWasm and soon EVM-only).
The Sei ecosystem
The ecosystem includes developers, validators, applications (across DeFi, gaming, wallets, infrastructure), bridges, and funding programs (such as the Sei Creator Fund). More than 200 teams are building on Sei, with millions of unique wallets and hundreds of millions of transactions processed.
Who are the founders of Sei?
Sei was founded by Jeffrey Feng and Jayendra Jog, supported by a team with experience at Airbnb, Goldman Sachs, Robinhood, Google, Nvidia, and more.
